In response to a media saturated culture, Jason Hoelscher labels his art work as short attention span paintings for a short attention span culture. He acknowledges the simple truth that artwork may only receive fleeting glances from viewers accustomed to quick-edit TV flashcuts. Because of this realization, Hoelscher introduces pop-culture influences such as hardcore punk
flyers and corporate graphics into his work.
Hoelscher was born in 1969 in St. Louis, MO and now lives and works in New York City. He received a BFA in painting and drawing from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado and a MFA in painting from the
Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
Locally, Hoelscher has shown work in Denver at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Rule Gallery, and the Arvada Center for the Arts. In addition, he has been featured in New York City at the Cornell DeWitt Gallery and the OK Harris
Gallery.
