ANNA NEWELL

Anna Newell was born in Newport News, Virginia. She now lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Anna’s photographs deal with her curiosity with, and attraction to, certain words. As an artist, she feels it is her job to question the draw of these words and to delve into an interaction with them. The product of this inquiry are her photographs, which display the results of the analysis. Her work is an exploratory process that investigates the interplay between colors and concepts, patterns and associations.

Anna Newell is a graduate of the Art Institute of Colorado. She studied Editorial Photography with an emphasis in Photojournalism. Her recent showings include the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha, Nebraska; Art House, Decatur, Georgia; Denver City and County Building, Colorado; Denver Center for Performing Arts, Colorado; Flash Gallery, Lakewood Colorado and City/Space, San Francisco, California. Anna was also selected for a year-long Creative Residency at Platteforum in Denver, Colorado and she is currently a Co-Curator at Denver’s City and County Building, Jury Commissioner’s Room.
