		<description>KEVIN CURRY
My work involves a mapping of sorts, a multidisciplinary collection of history and storytelling that reflects the looked-over, passed-over, hidden and forgotten parts of our culture and lives. The codification of language and information is a key element as I chronicle the lost and discarded, the preserved and the relished.

In considering heterogeneous cultural indicators and societal detritus such as discarded signage, disposed consumer items and mechanized devices, I combine my explorations with a strong tradition of mark and object making, while embracing the fusing of different media, technologies and approaches in an effort to transcend imposed artistic and societal boundaries.

As I look to this tangible cultural debris for both introspection and inspiration, I embrace the repetition of the multiple and the freedom of the ‘do-over’ evident in the reclamation and re-presentation of discarded items and histories - materials reflective of both growth and decay.

We leave behind so many artifacts, that we are being physically and metaphorically overrun by our own past as it ebbs and flows through and around our lives. It is these trace elements of past experiences – indicators of future events - that fuel my passion and my work.

		<description>ZACH REINI
Zach Reini’s current work explores human manufactured systems and their affect on behavior, experience and communication. This often involves manipulating the framework of social networks, codification methods or semiotics in order to depict the idea at hand. Through this manipulation characteristics can be extracted to either compound or negate the viewer’s expectations and guide their experience outside the baseline interpretation.

Systems, by nature, dictate a right and a wrong for their specified situation or they delineate specific parameters, which require strict compliance for full comprehension. “I aim to employ these traits out of their usual contexts to create a dilemma for the viewer: recognition of the system but an inability to immediately interpret its meaning. This delay of decoding caused by the condensation of information is of great interest to me in reference of the instant gratification of global culture and its available image library. Reduction to the simple rules of the “system” allows expansion of the work outward in order to approach the most successful scenario.”

		<description>MARK SINK
Mark Sink, photographer, curator and teacher, has been making a living from fine art photography since 1978. His personal work is in numerous museum collections as well as gallery solo and group shows in the US, South America and Europe. As a photographer of artwork he worked with and documented many noted artists lives and their work such as Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat and Rene Ricard.

Mark Sink’s most recent solo exhibition at RULE featured a rare collection of Warhol portraits. Titled, “The Untold Story,” the series is the photographic result of his formative experience of befriending Andy Warhol and hanging out at the Factory in the early 1980’s. This friendship allowed Sink unusual intimacy and comfort with the Pop Art icon, leading to highly personal portraits that document his influence and persona. Sink often used a Diana camera, a plastic “toy” whose quirks and inconsistencies created beautifully romantic black and white images. The artist employed this simple tool to create moving portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Warhol and others. Most of these images had never been exhibited before.

		<description>TERESA BOOTH BROWN
My work is a chance to make order out of chaos; to organize thoughts and ideas that resist written language.

Starting with a simple composition each painting is developed intuitively by the addition and subtraction of layers of paint, collage, and drawing. I first lay down a collage layer which is created rapidly and spontaneously. I meditate on the arrangement and rework elements adding and removing paint until form, color, and line bring together multiple layers of visual information. Pencil line is added where linear clarification is needed. Positive and negative space are considered. What emerges and what stays hidden are both examined until intellect and emotion are satisfied. The compositions are formed completely through this careful and archaeological process and are not preconceived.

In the studio I work on a large number of pieces at one time. This ensures that the work begins to have a conversation with itself and facilitates the emergence of possible tangents, resulting in a richer exchange. The paintings are at once interior, diagram, landscape, architecture, still life, and abstraction. They are like little lives that grow, change, and evolve until finally achieving their own identity. This identity is a visual equation. An idea of order achieved through contemplation.

Teresa graduated from Bennington College in Painting in 1985 and was subsequently a fellow at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and a resident artist at The Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Born in Portland, Oregon, she now lives and works on a farm in Northern Colorado.

		<description>HOLLY SUMNER
I am interested in the subjective and personal aspects of science and nature, observation and collecting.Scientific texts, natural history compendiums and field guides of every sort are the sources of my imagery and inform the structure, composition and color of my drawings and paintings.

My work composes an informational diagram or practical element and a depiction of an organism. I am presenting something about the scales of biological systems, the unseen beauty of the morphology, the ecological position and role in evolution.

Drawing with pressed seaweed refers to collections and the manner in which they were composed. In other drawings and paintings, programs for controlling instrumentation and analyzing data float with imagery of microscopic ocean organisms culled from old text books. The presentation on uncradled wood hung by leather cords refers to alter pieces and icons.

I began observing nature with my family. My understanding was shaped by imagery on many scales; the color of a bird’s wing, the hatch over a stream, a mountain ridge.

I received my MFA from CU, Boulder. Exhibitions in Colorado included solo shows and the Colorado Biennial, which opened at the Denver Art Museum. After moving to New York my work began to evolve into a more cryptic vision of nature. Group shows in New York include Artists Space, The Drawing Center, Charles Cowles, Exit Art and DUMBO Art Center. I had a one-person show at Skep Gallery in Soho and at the Boulder Museum for Contemporary Art. I was awarded a residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in 1997. More recently I have participated in shows in New York City, Brooklyn, Martha’s Vineyard, Santa Fe, Honolulu, and Cork, Ireland. My drawings are included in the flatfiles at Pierogi and Kentler International Art.

I work and live in Brooklyn, NY and Grand Lake, CO.

		<description>SANDY SKOGLUND
Sandy Skoglund was born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1946. Skoglund studied studio art and art history at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts from 1964-68. She went on to graduate school at the University of Iowa in 1969 where she studied filmmaking, intaglio printmaking, and multimedia art, receiving her M.A. in 1971 and her M.F.A. in painting in 1972.

Skoglund moved to New York City in 1972, where she started working as a conceptual artist, dealing with repetitive, process-oriented art production through the techniques of mark-making and photocopying. In the late seventies Skoglund’s desire to document conceptual ideas led her to teach herself photography. This developing interest in photographic technique became fused with her interest in popular culture and commercial picture making strategies, resulting in the directorial tableau work she is known for today. Skoglund currently lives in Jersey City, New Jersey.

		<description>MARGARET NEUMANN
Margaret Neumann's work explores the emotional landscape of thoughts and feelings that form our sense of self. Whether we choose to face them or not, these emotions are universal, and ultimately form the basis of religious and spiritual institutions, as well as political and ideological movements across time and cultures. Many of these emotions relate to man's vulnerability in the universe, and our attempt to find safety and 'certainty' no matter how small or how briefly.

Neumann's paintings explore the process we go through to find, understand and come to terms with these emotions - a process that requires a peeling away of layers of defenses and fears. Indeed, Neumann's painting method mirrors this process, but rather than peeling away, she 'layers up', beginning with a vague idea and unformed figures to a set of floating images embedded in and emerging out of the paint itself. Like the many layers of the self, Neumann builds up surfaces stroke by stroke until she sees an image that conveys the struggles confronted by the human psyche.

Neumann received a Master's of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1969. Before that she attended Colorado College and spent a summer in the Art Department at Columbia University. She currently paints full time and is represented by Rule Gallery. She has shown in other venues including a solo exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, group shows at Sebastian-Moore, and the Mizel Museum. She was the recipient of the Governor's Award and is she currently has a studio at Red Line.

		<description>WILMA FIORI
Trained as a representational artist, Wilma Fiori was subsequently drawn to anthropology by the abstraction of primitive art. In the early l980’s she volunteered as a curatorial assistant to Richard Conn in the Native Arts Department of the Denver Art Museum. Fiori has taken a Zen-like journey as she has evolved into a minimalist painter using color and texture as subjects and employing the elements of art in their purest form. Her media are oil, encaustic and acrylic.

Fiori was a long-time student of Dale Chisman and also studied with Bill Joseph, Quang Ho, Jerry de la Cruz, Jeffrey Keith and Mark Lunning.

		<description>LAURA FAYER
Laura Fayer paintings draw on various structures and systems to produce a loose geometry with organic rhythms. She relies mainly on her hand-crafted tools such as stencils and over-sized rubber stamps to construct her multi-layered paintings. As part of her process, she studies the natural and built environment; among her many references are architecture, aerial views of the landscape, language and musical structure. She also draws upon her memories of childhood years in Japan: her work reflects the wabi-sabi aesthetic--a Japanese concept of beauty that includes simplicity, unpretentiousness and imperfection.

Laura Fayer is a painter living and working in New York City. A graduate of Harvard University in Visual and Environmental Studies, Fayer also holds an MFA in painting from Hunter College in New York City. She is a recent recipient of a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Fayer's work has been exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally. She was awarded grants from International Residencies for Artists and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She has also been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony in NH, Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha.
