Steven Thompson was born in South Carolina and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. He holds
5 college degrees and taught for the past 6 years
at his Alma Mater, The University of Georgia, in Athens, Georgia and Cortona, Italy. He has exhibited both here in the States and Internationally.

My work is not the result of a graceful procession of reason and strategy. I remember conjecture, accidents, and erasures, mostly. My meaning shifts and leaves residues while ideas and imagery grows. Initial poetics or meaning or feelings or concepts are akin to seeds, monadic blocks from which more elaborate objects and unpredictable results arise, wonder surprises me out of dangerous complacency.

At its best, the result is a resurgence of appetite and the continued resolve to pursue elusive, perhaps non-existent, answers. I’m an enthusiast, however. The absence of these answers does not imply that I cannot will them to reality. I attempt to create work to withstand my own relentless scrutiny.
